The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Malawi, Her Excellency Rebecca Adda-Dontoh, today paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Honourable Charles Mhango, at Capital Hill in Lilongwe.
During the meeting, they discussed a wide range of issues concerning the support the UN provides to Malawi, with particular focus on poverty reduction, governance, health, education, and climate resilience.
Adda-Dontoh, who was accompanied by her Senior Advisor on Human Rights, Simon Terence, underscored the UN’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with government institutions in Malawi.
The UN continues to mobilise technical, financial, and human resources to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with the aim of empowering communities, improving livelihoods, and enhancing institutional capacity.
The Minister, joined by the Solicitor General and Secretary for Justice, Honourable Gertrude Hiwa, SC, emphasised that should the UN consider reducing its support, programmes related to human rights, the rule of law, and access to justice must be safeguarded due to their critical importance.
