Minister meets Zambia Envoy

Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Charles Mhango, has underscored the importance of strengthening Malawi–Zambia ties, calling for deeper regional integration and collaboration across justice, governance, and economic development.

Speaking at Capital Hill in Lilongwe today during a courtesy call by Zambia’s High Commissioner to Malawi, Panji Kaunda, Mhango stressed that borders should not divide nations with shared histories and aspirations.

“We do not need to entertain geopolitical pressures that seek to divide us. As Africans, we must begin to move together, lobby together, and work together for the benefit of our people,” Mhango said, adding that Africa can achieve greater transformation through unity and stronger partnerships.

Kaunda, on his part, observed that Malawi and Zambia share common cultural identities, developmental challenges, and governance priorities, pointing to programmes such as the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and the Farm Input Subsidy Programme (FISP) being implemented in both countries to empower citizens at community level.

Reflecting on Malawi’s current foreign exchange challenges, Kaunda noted that Zambia faced similar difficulties in the 1980s, stressing the importance of knowledge sharing among African nations.

“It is not about money, but about ideas,” he said, urging African countries to exchange solutions and strengthen cooperation.
